Mivel a motorkomponensek miatt csak a mezőny végéről vág neki a vasárnapi Belga Nagydíjnak, Alexander Albon a pénteki szabadedzéseken jobbára a versenybeállításokra fókuszált.
Nagy nap volt a mai a fiatal thai pilóta számára, hiszen először foglalhatott helyet a Red Bull versenyautójában, miután az energiaital-gyárosok bejelentették, a szezon hátralévő részére átveszi Pierre Gasly helyét a csapatnál.
Albon nem vallott szégyent: a nyitóedzésen alig maradt el csapattársától, Max Verstappentől, a második gyakorláson pedig 4 tized volt a hátránya a hollandhoz képest. A fiatal versenyző viszont elárulta, nem az egykörös tempón volt a hangsúly, hiszen rajtbüntetése miatt csak a mezőny végéről startol Spában.
„Elég sima nap volt, rögtön otthon érezte magam a csapatnál, és igen, az autó nagyban különbözik a Toro Rosso versenygépétől” – mondta a thai pilóta a Sky Sports F1 televíziónak nyilatkozva.
„De ezt már szerdán, a szimulátorban éreztem, és úgy voltam vele, beletelik majd egy kis időbe, mire hozzászokom. De amint az ember pályára gurul, felveszi a sisakot, jobban érzi az autót.”

Albon azt mondja, mivel motorcsere miatt a mezőny végéről rajtol majd, talán nincs rajta olyan nagy nyomás.
„Nyilván szerettem volna odatenni magam az időmérőn, hogy lássam, meddig jutok, de nem igazán az egykörös tempóra fókuszálunk, igyekszünk jól beállítani az autót vasárnapra. Emiatt egy kicsit nyugodtabb a légkör, de persze vasárnap szeretnénk jó munkát végezni.”
